Aron Ralston's arm photo depicts his amputated arm after he was forced to sever it to save his life. Ralston was canyoneering in Utah in 2003 when a boulder shifted, pinning his right arm against the canyon wall. After being stuck for 5 days, he was forced to use a dull multitool to amputate his own arm. Ralston eventually made his way to safety and wrote a book about his experience called "Between a Rock and a Hard Place," which was later adapted into the film "127 Hours." The photo of his amputated arm has become an iconic symbol of survival and resilience.
